In an effort to bolster cybersecurity defenses for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Sri Lanka, The Asia Foundation, supported by Google.org, has launched an initiative to provide digital safety training to 5,000 small businesses in the country. This program comes in response to Sri Lanka’s low ranking in the National Cyber Security Index, highlighting the need for improved protection of digital services.

With the increasing reliance on digital platforms and technologies, small businesses are becoming more vulnerable to cyber threats. Hackers and cybercriminals often target these businesses due to their limited resources and lack of robust security measures. Recognizing this, The Asia Foundation, in collaboration with Google.org, aims to equip small businesses in Sri Lanka with the necessary knowledge and skills to protect themselves from cyber attacks.

The digital safety training program will cover a wide range of topics, including best practices for securing online transactions, safeguarding customer data, and preventing phishing and malware attacks. Participants will learn about the latest cybersecurity threats and receive guidance on implementing effective security measures within their organizations.

By empowering small businesses with the tools and knowledge to enhance their cybersecurity defenses, this initiative aims to create a safer digital environment for MSMEs in Sri Lanka. The ultimate goal is to minimize the risk of cyber attacks, which can have devastating consequences for small businesses, including financial losses, reputational damage, and potential legal repercussions.

Through this partnership between The Asia Foundation and Google.org, small businesses will have access to valuable resources and expertise in the field of digital safety. The Asia Foundation, with its extensive experience in promoting inclusive and sustainable development in Asia, is well-positioned to provide tailored training programs that address the specific needs and challenges faced by small businesses in Sri Lanka.

Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, brings its technological expertise and global network to support this initiative. With its deep understanding of the digital landscape and its commitment to empowering individuals and organizations, Google.org plays a crucial role in ensuring the success of this digital safety training program.

By investing in digital safety training for small businesses, The Asia Foundation and Google.org are not only helping individual enterprises but also contributing to the overall growth and resilience of the Sri Lankan economy. As MSMEs play a vital role in driving economic development and job creation, safeguarding their digital operations is of paramount importance.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, it is essential for small businesses to stay updated on the latest cybersecurity practices. The digital safety training program offered by The Asia Foundation and supported by Google.org serves as a valuable resource for small businesses in Sri Lanka, enabling them to navigate the digital realm with confidence and security.

With this initiative, The Asia Foundation and Google.org are taking a proactive approach towards enhancing digital safety for small businesses in Sri Lanka. By equipping these enterprises with the necessary knowledge and skills, this program aims to create a resilient and secure digital ecosystem that fosters growth and innovation.
