Adlai Stevenson I: The Founder of a Dynasty

Adlai Stevenson I, the grandfather and namesake of Adlai Stevenson II, who later became the Governor of Illinois and a two-time unsuccessful Democratic candidate for President, had a remarkable political career of his own. Despite starting as a humble Congressman, Adlai rose to prominence as a trusted advisor to Grover Cleveland during his presidential campaign and played a crucial role in the Post Office during Cleveland’s presidency. In fact, when Cleveland ran for re-election in 1892, Adlai joined him on the ticket and ultimately became the 23rd Vice President after their victory. From his early life to his eventual passing, Adlai’s journey in politics was filled with noteworthy achievements and setbacks, leaving behind a lasting legacy.
